🐯 Ti-GRRR Community Highlights

The GD Elementary Science was a huge success.

Close to 100 students participated, and we were incredibly impressed by their creativity, the wide variety of topics, and the time, effort, and dedication they put into their work. Representatives from Snapology, the Nashua River Watershed Association, the Lowell River Hawks Robotics Club, and First Robotics brought engaging, hands-on exhibits that gave students a fun, interactive way to explore science and technology. The Wacky Science Show was a big hit!

This event is a tremendous volunteer effort, driven by 18 judges carefully evaluating projects, alongside many others supporting setup, cleanup, data entry, refreshment sales, and more. We are so grateful to everyone who contributed their time, resources, and refreshments to help make the science fair such a success.

Swallow Union students took home four awards, and we are incredibly proud of them and all of the participants. A special shout-out to Heather Gerteisen and Bethany Vrouhas as the coordinators and planners extradiannaire for their time and effort to ensure a wonderful event for our school communities.

Several local businesses sponsored this event and also deserve recognition:

3rd Showing of Screenagers Elementary

We wanted to share that we have scheduled a 3rd showing of Screenagers Elementary Edition through the Groton Public Library on March 25th. We already planned to use that night for a discussion, but to accommodate those who couldn't attend the first two showings, we decided to tack on one more opportunity to watch.

For those newer to the topic, we also have the 2nd Anxious Generation book club on April 14th at GPL. We hosted the first book club in March 2025, and it brought together 40 GD parents over 3 small group discussions and was what led us to grow the Wait Until 8th pledge across the district, hosting these Screenagers showings, and continuing monthly discussions at GPL. This book is full of research-based conclusions by experts in the field and covers everything from "how we got here" to "where to go from here", which many of us found quite empowering for parenting in this generation.

Screenagers: Elementary Edition

WHEN: Wednesday, March 25th - Join us for either or both sessions!

6:00-7:00 pm  Watch the Screenagers (Elementary Edition) documentary

Couldn't make it to one of the two watch parties at the PAC? Good news, we're offering a THIRD opportunity at GPL!

7:00-8:00 pm  Let's talk about it!

Coming off the heels of the Screenagers: Elementary School Age Edition watch parties, let's discuss some of the key themes, share personal struggles, and learn new strategies from other local parents. We will also give a quick update on our district Wait Until 8th numbers, next month's 2nd annual Anxious Generation book club discussion, and planning for a Wait Until 8th family ice cream social!

Anxious Generation Book Club

Join other Groton parents in a discussion of Jonathan Haidt's book, The Anxious Generation. The book is an in-depth exploration into the challenges to children's mental health in the era of smartphones, social media, and big techβ€”and a plan for a healthier, freer childhood.

Groton and Dunstable residents will be given priority for this discussion until one week prior. Copies of the book will be available at the Circulation Desk.

WHEN: Tuesday, April 14th - 7:00-8:30pm
