Weekly Update with Dr. Bruno

May 5-9, 2025 Edition 12

Message from Geoff Bruno Ed.D

Join our GDRSD Strategic Vision Committee!

We are looking for members of our Groton-Dunstable community to serve on a Strategic Vision Team focused on charting a future course for GDRSD as a dynamic learning organization designed to continuously improve and inspire our students preK-12!

I am looking for 20-25 members of our community to guide and facilitate the creation of a multi-year strategic vision document that will serve as our organizational compass. Where would you like to see our school community in three or four years? What is our mission and how do our core values guide us in establishing a clear vision for the future?

In order to build a shared vision, it is critical many voices are heard, diverse perspectives are considered, creative ideas are explored, and feedback/participation comes from many across both towns. We need participation from students, parents/guardians, family members, citizens, community leaders, teachers and staff, school and district leaders, School Committee members, and town leaders.

The goal will be to have members of our strategic vision committee identified by the end of May (this month), with our first meeting scheduled for a day in June prior to the last day of school. Committee members will participate in 1-2 likely virtual or hybrid meetings over the course of the summer, and then meet again in the fall to plan and facilitate community forums designed to provide ideas and feedback for the first draft of a multi-year strategic plan.

Thank you in advance for your interest in this endeavor - if you are interested in serving on this committee, or in learning more about the process, please EMAIL ME: gbruno@gdrsd.org.

Budget Slides Presented at Town Meeting

Our educators are working tirelessly to inspire our kids to achieve, develop their own unique passions and talents, and build a sense of belonging and community within our schools. The personnel reductions and cuts experienced over the last two years have impacted all of us, and it is critical to steady the ship, prevent further reductions, and have the necessary resources to move our district and school improvement plans forward and build a shared vision for our future citizens!

Neurodiversity Acceptance Week:

High School and Middle School Days of Difference

High School and Middle School World of Difference Students visited Swallow Union, Florence Roche, and Boutwell classrooms this week as part of Neurodiversity Acceptance Week. The High and Middle Schoolers led read-alouds and conversations with the younger students centered around Neurodiversity and the importance of celebrating the many differences that make us all human. This meaningful opportunity is intended to foster empathy, understanding, and leadership among our 7th-12th grade students while also helping to promote awareness, acceptance, and kindness in the early childhood and elementary communities.

Want to see more of what our World of Difference students are up to? Check out the Middle School's 2nd Annual Culture Fair with World of Difference on May 9th from 3:00-4:00pm. Bring your family and friends for a fun, educational, and vibrant celebration of global cultures. Come explore interactive displays, enjoy delicious traditional foods, and experience live performances from around the world. Feel free to bring food from our own culture, potluck style!
